Substitute Chris Iwelumo netted a late equaliser to rescue a point for Stoke against local rivals Port Vale. After a tense opening, Vale started to take charge and Ian Armstrong forced a fine save from goalkeeper Neil Cutler with a thunderous shot in the 35th minute. And the home side were eventually rewarded for their pressure in the 63rd minute when Steve McPhee headed home Stephen Brooker's cross. But a double substitution inspired City's 77th-minute leveller. Lewis Neal found Iwelumo and the big striker skipped past Mark Goodlad before producing a cool finish. Port Vale: Goodlad, Carragher, Burns, Burton, Ingram, Cummins, Brisco, Dodd, Armstrong, Brooker, McPhee. Subs: Delaney, McClare, Burgess, Rowland, Maye. Stoke: Cutler, Thomas, Handyside, Shtaniuk, Clarke, Vandeurzen, Gunnarsson, O'Connor, Gudjonsson, Hoekstra, Cooke. Subs: Ward, Iwelumo, Rowson, Neal, Henry. Referee: P Richards (Preston)
