Victory over Cambridge revived Colchester's promotion push.

They were in control for most of the game, and two goals from leading scorer Scott McGleish saw them come through comfortable winners.

Cambridge had surprisingly taken the lead through French teenager Armand One.

McGleish levelled on 37 minutes and Colchester were ahead on 41 minutes with a splendidly struck half volley from Gavin Johnson.

It was Johnson's first goal of the season.

Cambridge gave a disappointing display and Tom Youngs missed a gilt-edged chance to equalise.

Rampant Colchester sealed the points with another McGleish goal six minutes from the end - the striker's ninth of the season.

Colchester: Woodman, Gavin Johnson, Ross Johnson, Clark, Stockwell, Bowry, Pinault, Izzet, Duguid, Rapley, McGleish. Subs: Brown, White, Morgan, Keith, Blackwell.

Cambridge Utd: Perez, Fleming, Goodhind, Walling, Angus, Ashbee, Wanless, Prokas, Kitson, Youngs, One. Subs: Warner, Chillingworth, Marshall, Duncan, Revell.

Referee: P Dowd (Stoke-on-Trent).
