Jermaine McSporran was Wycombe's match winner with a 53rd-minute goal. McSporran outpaced City's defence before shooting past Steve Phillips after a fine through-ball from Steve Brown. City hit the post twice through Steve Jones and substitute Lee Peacock. But goalkeeper Phillips also had to save well from McSporran and Dave Carroll. The kick-off time was delayed for half an hour because Wycombe were held up on the M4 motorway. But that did not stop them turning in a display full of commitment, and they defended brilliantly in the closing stages when City laid siege to their goal. Bristol City: Phillips, Burnell, Lever, Hill, Murray, Summerbell, Tinnion, Clist, Bell, Thorpe, Steve Jones. Subs: Attwell, Peacock, Doherty, Coles, Goodridge. Wycombe: Taylor, Senda, Rogers, McCarthy, Vinnicombe, Currie, Bulman, Brown, Simpson, McSporran, Rammell. Subs: Carroll, Walker, Ryan, Emblen, Holligan. Referee: G Cain (Bootle).
