Huddersfield 1-0 Bristol City
American winger John Thorrington's second-half strike earned Huddersfield a 1-0 victory at home to Bristol City.
But it was City's substitute keeper Steve Phillips who was the star of the show. Thorrington fired the only goal after 71 minutes but Phillips had previously kept Huddersfield at bay. Danny Schofield, Andy Booth and Thorrington forced a string of saves from Phillips, who replaced groin injury victim Mike Stowell after just eight minutes. Just when it seemed City would hold out for a point Chris Holland's cross was nodded down by Booth and Thorrington finished at the far post.
Huddersfield: Margetson, Jenkins, Clarke, Gray, Mattis, Thorrington, Irons, Evans, Holland, Booth, Schofield. Subs: Digby, Moses, Heary, Macari, Hay. Bristol City: Stowell, Hill, Lever, Amankwaah, Bell, Aaron Brown, Tinnion, Clist, Murray, Thorpe, Jones. Subs: Phillips, Burnell, Matthews, Doherty, Summerbell. Referee: F Stretton (Nottingham) |
