Cambridge 2-1 QPR
Cambridge stunned high-flying QPR with a third-minute goal that set them on their way to victory at the Abbey Stadium.
Dave Kitson added to his ever-growing reputation by firing the hosts in front following a long-throw move involving Phil Warner and Tom Youngs. And from an almost identical set piece, Kitson flicked the ball on for Youngs to put Cambridge firmly in charge 11 minutes into the second half. It took a Karl Connolly goal in the 75th minute to inspire the Hoops to play the kind of football which had taken them to fourth in the table. He latched onto a rebound to blast a 20-yarder just under the crossbar. That sparked a furious fightback but Rangers found French goalkeeper Lionel Perez in outstanding form. Steve Palmer and Mark Perry were beginning to celebrate equalisers in the 82nd and 90th minutes respectively but they somehow Perez managed to claw the ball away on each occasion.
Cambridge Utd: Perez, Goodhind, Walling, Angus, Warner, Prokas, Wanless, Ashbee, Youngs, One, Kitson. Subs: Duncan, Fleming, Marshall, Guttridge, Revell. QPR: Day, Forbes, Palmer, Ben Askar, Warren, Perry, Rose, Bonnot, Thomson, Griffiths, Dodou. Subs: Bull, Bignot, Wardley, Connolly, Paquette. Referee: R Beeby (Northampton)
