Bristol C 2-0 Tranmere
Bristol City's Steve Jones and Tony Thorpe netted first-half goals to seal a home win over Tranmere and keep the Robins riding high.
Danny Wilson's team played some scintillating football and were rewarded by clinical finishes from Jones after 20 minutes and Thorpe on the stroke of half-time. Tranmere made more of a game of it after the interval but their misery was compounded when Stuart Barlow blazed a stoppage-time penalty over the crossbar. With better finishing, City could have been out of sight by half-time. Scott Murray and Jones both missed the target with close-range headers while Thorpe failed to beat Tranmere goalkeeper Joe Murphy when put clear. Seyni N'Diaye twice headed over from good positions for Tranmere, but the visitors could have no complaints after being outplayed for much of the game.
Bristol City: Stowell, Lever, Hill, Amankwaah, Murray, Bell, Clist, Tinnion, Aaron Brown, Jones, Thorpe. Subs: Phillips, Matthews, Burnell, Goodridge, Doherty. Tranmere: Murphy, Yates, Roberts, Sharps, Allen, Parkinson, Koumas, Flynn, Henry, N'Diaye, Barlow. Subs: Challinor, Achterberg, Mellon, Allison, Hume. Referee: P Armstrong (Thatcham).
