Northampton 0-2 Chesterfield

Chesterfield inflicted Northampton's sixth defeat of the season with a victory at Sixfields - their first league win of the campaign.

The Cobblers are now rooted to the bottom of the Second Division and to make matters worse had to play most of the game with 10 men after Marco Gabbiadini was sent off in the 18th minute following a challenge on Lee Richards.

Luke Beckett gave Chesterfield a 14th-minute lead but Sam Parkin wasted three good chances for Northampton before the break.

The closest Northampton came to an equaliser was a Paul McGregor free-kick which was blocked for a corner.

But Chesterfield made sure they picked up their first three points of the season when skipper Ian Breckin headed home after 76 minutes.
