Cambridge 2-1 Cardiff
Alan Cork was unhappy with Cardiff's lack of spirit
Cambridge United hauled themselves off the bottom of the Second Division after shocking big-spending Cardiff City with a 2-1 victory.
Dave Kitson put the Us in front after 14 minutes and skipper Paul Wanless added a second in the 71st as John Beck's side turned the form book on its head. The Bluebirds did manage to pull a goal back through Andy Legg in stoppage time but it was too little, too late. Beck adopted a different approach with his side and their passing game reaped immediate rewards to bring to an end Cardiff's unbeaten record. Cambridge's new French striker, 18-year-old Armand One, enjoyed an excellent debut and could have added to the scoresheet. Cardiff boss Alan Cork surprisingly started with £1.75m midweek signing Peter Thorne on the substitutes' bench. But despite his inclusion in the 58th minute, the former Stoke striker could not make an impact.
