Port Vale 4-2 Notts County
Transfer-listed George O'Callaghan scored two second-half goals to help Port Vale to an entertaining opening day win against Notts County.

O'Callaghan, a forgotten man for most of last season, returned in terrific style as promotion-fancied County were run ragged.

Stephen McPhee gave Vale the lead in the 21st minute, but Marcel Cas levelled for the Magpies seven minutes later.

The home side went in front again two minutes into the second half through O'Callaghan, but Danny Allsopp was on hand in the 53rd minute to level matters again.

But Vale's young players were not to be denied and O'Callaghan and substitute Ashley Dodd struck in the 62nd and 70th minute respectively to deservedly claim all three points for manager Brian Horton's side.

Port Vale: Goodlad, Carragher, Walsh, Burton, Brisco, Cummins, Brooker, McPhee, Ingram, Armstrong, O'Callaghan. Subs: Delaney, Dodd, Gibson, Burns, Painter.

Notts County: Mildenhall, Owers, Fenton, Wilkie, Ireland, Baraclough, Cas, Caskey, Nicholson, Stallard, Allsopp. Subs: Garden, Warren, Jorgensen, Liburd, Brough.

Referee: R Beeby (Northampton)
