Huddersfield 1-0 Bournemouth
A Kenny Irons goal after 50 minutes gave Huddersfield a 1-0 win over Bournemouth at the McAlpine Stadium.
Irons missed most of last season through a combination of injury and poor form. But he ensured Huddersfield started life in Division Two on a winning note following relegation last season. The 31-year-old midfielder latched onto Chris Hay's pass and volleyed home from the edge of the penalty area. Ten minutes after scoring Irons almost doubled his tally with a shot that drifted just wide of Gareth Stewart's goal. The first half was an equal contest and The Cherries could have taken the lead when Steve Purches fired just wide in the second minute of stoppage time. Huddersfield, though, dominated after the break and Hay twice squandered chances to make the result safe.

Bournemouth: Stewart, Howe, Tindall, Broadhurst, Purches, Hayter, Hughes, Carl Fletcher, Elliott, Eribenne, Feeney. Subs: Menetrier, Foyewa, Smith, Birmingham, O'Connor. Referee: A Hall (Birmingham)
