Cardiff 1-0 Wycombe
Daniel Gabbidon scores Cardiff's first goal of the season against Wycombe
Daniel Gabbidon hits a spectacular goal for Cardiff
A superb goal by Daniel Gabbidon gave Cardiff City a hard-earned opening day 1-0 victory over Wycombe Wanderers.

Gabbidon pounced in the 16th minute with an overhead kick after David Hughes had nodded a Mike Simpkins cross back into the area.

It was a deserved win for the Bluebirds in front of their biggest crowd for many seasons, with 17,403 turning up at Ninian Park, but Wycombe battled hard and made the hosts work for their three points.

Cardiff's Scott Young took the place of the injured Spencer Prior, who fractured a cheekbone in training earlier in the week, but the defender lasted only 10 minutes before limping out of the action.

Cardiff: Alexander, Weston, Young, Gabbidon, Simpkins, Legg, Hamilton, Kavanagh, Low, Gordon, Earnshaw. Subs: Brayson, Fortune-West, Boland, Maxwell, Hughes.

Wycombe: Taylor, Vinnicombe, Cousins, McCarthy, Rogers, Currie, Bulman, Simpson, Brown, McSporran, Rammell. Subs: Marsh, Carroll, Ryan, Holligan, Senda.

Referee: P Dowd (Stoke-on-Trent)
