Blackpool 0-2 Reading
Blackpool received an instant footballing lesson in their first match in Division Two as much-fancied Reading strolled to victory.

Alan Pardew's fast-thinking side sealed all three points courtesy of defensive errors by the Seasiders' back four and goalkeeper.

Brett Ormerod had two early chances for Blackpool but Reading goalkeeper Phil Whitehead made two excellent saves.

A badly-directed pass on the half-hour saw Andy Hughes go clean through but his initial effort was saved by Phil Barnes.

Barnes was hesitant at the resulting corner giving Phil Parkinson a clear header on goal, which he accepted to give the Royals the advantage.

And Reading made victory certain after 74 minutes when a missed tackle allowed Nicky Forster to go clean through and drill an angled shot past Barnes.

Blackpool: Barnes, Parkinson, Jaszczun, O'Kane, Hughes, Reid, Wellens, Simpson, Hills, John Murphy, Ormerod. Subs: Clarkson, Pullen, Collins, MacKenzie, Bullock.

Reading: Whitehead, Murty, Robinson, Williams, Whitbread, Hughes, Harper, Parkinson, Alex Smith, Forster, Butler. Subs: Viveash, Igoe, Gamble, Ashdown, Henderson.

Referee: G Laws (Whitley Bay)
