Luton 0-1 Rotherham

Luton were relegated to the basement division for the first time in 33 years after a narrow defeat by high-flying Rotherham.

Chris Sedgwick swept home a cross from Rotherham's leading-scorer Mark Robins to send the Millers back into the second automatic promotion slot with just two games remaining.

Robins appeared to be offside when he make his run to set up the goal, which sparked protests from the Luton defence.

Skipper Marvin Johnson and Richard Dryden were both booked for dissent and manager Joe Kinnear was sent from the dug out by referee Paul Armstrong for continuing the argument.

It was rough luck on Luton, who had put in a fighting performance but again demonstrated their inability to score goals.

They failed to muster a single shot on target.

Rotherham showed plenty of fighting qualities of their own and just about deserved the win that keeps their hopes of a second successive promotion season alive.

They could have scored at least two more goals but were denied by the bravery of Mark Ovendale, who saved at the feet of Robins and Ritchie Barker.
