Port Vale 0-0 Wigan

Port Vale stretched their unbeaten sequence to 12 games in a goalless draw with Wigan at Vale Park.

Vale played the better football and looked more likely winners even though they had substitute defender Liam Burns playing in goal for most of the game.

Burns took over between the sticks in the 28th minute after Mark Goodlad had suffered a head injury in a collision with Lee McCulloch.

Vale's Stephen Brooker hammered a seventh-minute shot against the post and Tony Naylor missed the best chance of the game when he headed the ball over the crossbar 10 minutes from time.

Port Vale: Goodlad, Walsh, Carragher, Burton, Cummins, Brisco, Brammer, Bridge-Wilkinson, Smith, Naylor, Brooker. Subs: Widdrington, Tankard, Twiss, Burns, Eyre.

Wigan: Stillie, Balmer, De Zeeuw, McGibbon, Bradshaw, Bidstrup, Brannan, Sheridan, Beagrie, McCulloch, Liddell. Subs: Raffaele, Ashcroft, Roberts, Martinez, Dalglish.

Referee: W Jordan (Tring).
