Middlesbrough   1 - 1   Nott'm Forest

Joe Bennett battles with Garath McCleary

Middlesbr'h 1-1 Nottingham Forest

Dele Adebola bundled in an injury-time equaliser to earn promotion-chasing Nottingham Forest a precious point and leave Middlesbrough fifth from bottom.

Leroy Lita's cross was swept in by Scott McDonald to give the home side the lead after a defensive mix up.

Goalkeeper Lee Camp made a series of fine saves to keep Forest in the game in the second half.

And two minutes into injury time substitute Adebola snatched the equaliser to move Forest up to fourth.

Forest had looked set to suffer a first defeat on Teesside in 28 years but in picking up the point, Billy Davies' side climbed to within three points of second-placed Swansea.

Middlesbrough, meanwhile, remain 20th, six points above third-from-bottom Scunthorpe.

But Tony Mowbray's side will wonder how they failed to convert a much-improved second-half display into three points.

Middlesbrough tested Camp twice within the space of 30 seconds in the 10th minute when Julio Arca's powerful 20-yard strike was beaten away by the 26-year-old goalkeeper, who then saved comfortably after captain Barry Robson had tried his luck from a similar position.

David McGoldrick forced Jason Steele into action soon after and centre-back Luke Chambers volleyed over from Chris Cohen's free-kick as the visitors looked to settle into their stride.

Forest were forced into a change in the 38th minute when left-back Joel Lynch picked up an injury and was replaced by Brendon Moloney.

Camp made another fine save from Tony McMahon's curling free-kick early in the second half and also denied Lita from 12 yards.

But the highly-rated stopper could do nothing when McDonald fired home his eighth goal of the season, the Australian finishing coolly at the back post Robson's right-wing cross.

McDonald almost added a second in the 64th minute following Lita's flick-on but Andrew Taylor was thwarted by Camp once again after another thunderous left-footed shot.

Camp, who has recently been given the go-ahead to play for Northern Ireland via his grandfather, blocked a third effort from Taylor 11 minutes later, while Forest saw appeals for a penalty turned down when Arca blocked Chris Gunter's cross amid shouts for handball.

Robson looked to have added a second for Boro in the closing stages, but his deflected effort clipped the outside of the post.

Forest then grabbed a point as substitute Adebola, on for McGoldrick, levelled with seconds remaining.
