Middlesbrough   3 - 4   Swansea

Middlesbrough v Swansea

Middlesbrough 3-4 Swansea

Craig Beattie's injury-time strike brought Swansea a thrilling win at Middlesbrough after they trailed 3-1.

His powerful left-footed low drive topped a comeback that began with Scott Sinclair's penalty and continued with Ashley Williams' scrappy effort.

Boro's Marvin Emnes struck the opener from inside the box, Nathan Dyer striking back from close range.

Jonathan Grounds and Leroy Lita put Boro 3-1 up, but Sinclair and Williams struck and substitute Beattie won it.

The win pushed the Swans back into the play-off spots a week after their hearts were broken in the south Wales derby by Craig Bellamy's memorable strike.

But for Boro's Grounds it was a case of what might have been after he scored his first goal for his boyhood club only to end up on the losing side.

Ex-Swans loanee Emnes struck against the Liberty Stadium outfit for the second time this season to open the scoring after eight minutes.

We could have scored more - Rodgers

Lita's fine touch allowed Emnes to twirl before giving goalkeeper Dorus de Vries no chance only for the Swans to remind Emnes of the sort of attacking style he had left behind.

The visitors launched a counter-attack after Seb Hines' lost control following a telling run. A fluid passing move later found Luke Moore on the right and his pass fell to the unmarked Dyer who side-footed past Jason Steele from 12 yards.

But defensive lapses also blighted the Swans' efforts, gifting Lita a great chance that de Vries this time proved equal to.

After Williams fouled Scott McDonald 25 yards from goal, Barry Robson's superb free kick rose above the visitors' and Grounds got the final touch.

Middlesbrough went further ahead eight minutes after the break from close range as a Robson corner rebounded for Lita to head home.

But the hosts' elation was short lived. Julio Arca fouled Joe Allen on the hour and Sinclair fired his penalty low to Steele's right to close the gap.

Swansea levelled in the 68th minute after Angel Rangel's effort rebounded to Williams, who hit home from six yards.

And Beattie completed a remarkable win, beating Steele with a left-footed strike from 20 yards to stun the home fans.
