Millwall   2 - 0   Barnsley

Championship highlights: Millwall 2-0 Barnsley

Millwall 2-0 Barnsley

Steve Morison struck his 13th goal of the season to help Millwall maintain their pursuit of a Championship play-off place with victory over Barnsley.

The Wales forward tapped home a James Henry cross in the 17th minute to put the home side into the lead.

Henry made it 2-0 later in the half with a 20-yard shot that deflected in off Tykes defender Matthew Hill.

Barnsley improved after the break but striker Danny Haynes fired their best chance wide of goal.

It represents a second disappointing trip to the capital in the space of a month for Barnsley after the original fixture was called off a couple of hours before kick-off.

The Yorkshire side's away form remains a worry for manager Mark Robins after their eighth defeat in 14 games on the road this season.

Millwall's away form has also been indifferent, but they have no such concerns at the New Den, where they are unbeaten in the league since 13 November.

The Lions dominated the first half and were deservedly ahead just after the quarter-hour mark when Henry found Morison unmarked at the far post to tap in.

Hugo Colace had a couple of decent first-half chances for the visitors, but he fired the first over and saw an attempted chip saved by home keeper David Forde.

Millwall seized firm control of the game in the 37th minute when Henry's long-range drive struck Hill and wrong-footed Tykes keeper Luke Steele as it flew into the net.

The highly rated Morison almost doubled his tally when Liam Trotter sent him clear only for his touch to desert him, allowing Steele to save.

Barnsley livened up after the break and Haynes, who scored twice on his debut in Tuesday night's win at Doncaster, fired a decent chance wide.

Jacob Butterfield could have given the visitors a lifeline late in the game but their hopes evaporated when the midfielder fired his shot past the post.
