Leeds   4 - 0   Scunthorpe

Leeds 4 - 0 Scunthorpe

Leeds 4-0 Scunthorpe

Leeds outlined their promotion credentials with a four-goal demolition of struggling Scunthorpe.

Simon Grayson's team scored three times in 12 first-half minutes, before adding a fourth late on.

On-loan Arsenal winger Sanchez Watt fired the home side in front, before Max Gradel coolly doubled the lead and Bradley Johnson rifled the third.

With two minutes left, Leeds substitute Davide Somma rounded off a superb home display with a neat angled finish.

The win means Leeds have lost only one of their last 15 matches and sit fifth in the table and level on points with the two teams directly above them - Cardiff and Norwich.

Scunthorpe, though, have now lost nine of their last 10 games and remain second-bottom of the table, three points clear of rock-bottom Preston, but four points behind 21st-placed Sheffield United.

Leeds seized complete control of the game courtesy of a three-goal first-half blitz, which Watt got underway when he gathered a flick from Luciano Becchio, spun past Paul Reid and drove into the bottom corner.

Three minutes later, Gradel made it 2-0 when he was sent clear by the impressive Robert Snodgrass and calmly rounded Iron keeper Joe Murphy before slotting home.

Snodgrass was central to Leeds' third goal in the 28th minute, when his mazy dribble took the home side deep into the opposition half before he was tackled and the ball fell to Johnson, who hammered in.

Scunthorpe almost pulled a goal back before the break but Michael Collins' effort looped past the post, before Watt came close to grabbing a second with a shot from inside the area that Murphy palmed away.

Scunthorpe substitute Jonathan Forte was unlucky when his drive deflected off Alex Bruce and hit the bar, but Leeds replacement Somma fared better when he scored from an angle to compound the visitors' misery.
