Ipswich   3 - 0   Leicester

Ipswich 3-0 Leicester

Ipswich 3-0 Leicester

Ipswich ended a run of six straight defeats with victory over Leicester but only after a scare that the game would be abandoned because of heavy show.

Rory Fallon's lay-off set up David Norris to open the scoring, before Jason Scotland's low shot made it 2-0.

Shane O'Connor teed up Scotland to poke home a third goal but shortly after the break play was stopped for 17 minutes.

After the restart Leicester's Curtis Davies had a goal ruled out for off-side but a comeback was never likely.

On day when four games in the Premier League and four other Championship games fell victim to the weather, referee Stuart Atwell passed the Portman Road pitch playable at a lunchtime, but by the time the evening kick-off came, the playing surface was covered in snow and the lines had to be painted in blue.

And it was not long before the ball was crossing one of those lines, as Ipswich took the lead on just six minutes.

Damien Delaney knocked Jack Collback's long free-kick across the goalmouth, and Fallon did well the lay the ball off to captain Norris, who shot home from the edge of the box.

Ipswich left-back Mark Kennedy came close to gifting the visitors an equaliser on 15 minutes when he headed Darius Vassell's flick-on against the inside of the post, but Ipswich were on top and soon doubled their lead.

Fallon was again involved in the build-up, setting up Scotland for a low shot into the bottom corner.

The Trinidad and Tobago striker soon added his second of the night when O'Connor pounced on Yuki Abe's hesitation and provided the pass for a tap-in finish.

The groundstaff did their best to clear the pitch of snow at half-time, but after Leicester's Richie Wellens lost his footing in spectacular fashion trying to deny O'Connor a goal scoring chance, a temporary halt to proceedings was called for more remedial work to the playing surface.

After 17 minutes, the players returned to the pitch, and almost instantly Davies thought he had pulled his team back into the match, only to see his volley chalked off.

A miserable day for Leicester was rounded off when Angelo Miguel Vitor pulled his hamstring 15 minutes from time, meaning the Foxes finished with 10 men.
