Crystal Palace   0 - 0   Hull

Crystal Palace 0-0 Hull City

Crystal Palace 0-0 Hull City

Crystal Palace missed a string of chances as a goalless draw with fellow strugglers Hull City left them in the Championship relegation zone.

James Vaughan scuffed a shot wide and Kamil Zayatte made a superb block to deny Pablo Counago in the first half.

Alassane N'Diaye spurned several chances after the break, while Neil Danns saw his goalbound effort blocked.

Jay Simpson had the Tigers' best chance but he fired straight at Julian Speroni after being sent through one on one.

The visitors will be far happier with the point after Palace dominated the second half, which the south Londoners spent camped inside their opponents' half.

The first half was a scrappy affair, with the Yorkshire club disrupted by injuries to Anthony Gerrard and Richard Garcia, who both had to be substituted.

The home side created the first of many scoring opportunities when Counago raced down the right and set up Vaughan, who made a poor connection with the ball and saw his shot trickle wide.

Moments later, Danns broke to the byeline and cut the ball back for Counago to strike, but Zayatte stretched to make a crucial block.

Hull's best chance came shortly after the break, when Simpson found himself through on goal, but the visiting substitute took the ball too far wide and ended up firing straight at Speroni from a tight angle.

N'Diaye then had a trio of attempts to break the deadlock.

He narrowly missed the top corner with a clever effort from outside the penalty area before then firing over from a tight angle, with team-mates better placed in the box.

Minutes later, Nathaniel Clyne surged forward on the counter-attack and set up N'Diaye but goalkeeper Vito Mannone did well to push away the Frenchman's drive.

The Tigers had an opportunity to grab an unlikely winner at the death but Kevin Kilbane failed to connect with a header from a Robert Koren corner.

And there was still time for Palace to create another gilt-edged chance, when Andy Dawson made a tremendous block to foil Danns in the six-yard box, before Counago blazed over the rebound.

The result leaves Palace third from bottom of the Championship, while Hull, whose unbeaten run now stretches to five, are three places above the Eagles in 19th.
