Preston   4 - 3   Crystal Palace

Preston NE v Crystal Palace

Preston 4-3 Crystal Palace

Preston climbed out of the bottom three after surviving a Palace fightback in a thrilling match at Deepdale.

Jon Parkin fired the hosts in front before Palace levelled through Owen Garvan's 20th-minute piledriver.

Striker Parkin drilled Preston ahead again before Keith Treacy added a spectacular third before half-time.

Skipper Callum Davidson's penalty put North End 4-1 up - but Andy Dorman's header and James Vaughan's late penalty for Palace ensured a nervous finish.

With his first-half double, Parkin reached 100 career goals as Darren Ferguson's side put their recent woes to one side to hang on for a badly-needed victory.

Parkin set them on their way in the 13th minute, slotting a right-footed shot into the bottom corner following Paul Coutts' left-wing cross.

Palace drew level seven minutes later when Garvan received the ball 30 yards out and drove an unstoppable shot into the top corner.

In an open passage of play, Parkin put Preston with an 18-yard effort from Sean St Ledger's pass.

Both were excellent strikes, but they were eclipsed by Treacy in the 36th minute when he fired home from all of 35 yards for his sixth goal of the season.

North End looked home and dry in the 66th minute when Julian Bennett fouled Coutts in the box, and Davidson duly made no mistake from the penalty spot.

But Palace refused to surrender and Dorman hauled them back into the game three minutes later with his first goal for the club, nodding in Patrick McCarthy cross from the right flank.

With 10 minutes remaining, Darel Russell fouled Pablo Counago and Vaughan stepped up to fire home from 12 yards but Preston managed to ride out the storm to take three welcome points.
