Swansea   2 - 0   Scunthorpe

Swansea 2-0 Scunthorpe

Swansea 2-0 Scunthorpe

Swansea City maintained their 100% home start, but left it late to see off managerless Scunthorpe.

Scott Sinclair broke the deadlock seven minutes from time lifting the ball into the roof of the net after Scunthorpe failed to clear their lines.

And two minutes later, Stephen Dobbie doubled the lead after racing down the right and fired in from an acute angle.

Sam Togwell had Scunthorpe's best chance before both goals, but his shot was blocked at point-blank range.

The win takes Swansea up to sixth in the Championship but they were made to hard work for it against a stubborn Iron side.

It was a dominant performance by the Welsh side and new loan signing Frank Nouble could have opened the scoring inside 10 minutes, but could only find the side-netting from 12 yards.

Captain Garry Monk hit the bar with a header soon after from Mark Gower's in-swinging corner and Darren Pratley fired a 25-yard shot just wide.

Later, Scunthorpe almost capitalised on a loose Gower pass, but Michael Collins dragged his shot wide.

Swansea continued to push in the second half and Darren Pratley struck the post with a volley, before the lively Sinclair skipped past two players before being denied by keeper Joe Murphy.

Nouble was withdrawn in the 65th minute and replaced by Dobbie, but Scunthorpe continued to hold firm.

Hard-fought win pleases Rodgers

And the visitors could have snatched the points when Togwell raced through, only to be denied by Dorus de Vries at point-blank range.

But Swansea finally got their rewards when substitute David Cotterill sent a delightful ball to the far post and Sinclair was on hand to fire home his fourth goal of the season from six yards.

Dobbie sealed the win two minutes later after charging down the right in acres of space before cutting inside and smashing home his third of the campaign.

Swansea have now won all four of their home league games scoring nine, conceding just one and have not been beaten at the Liberty Stadium since March.

It was not ideal preparation for Scunthorpe who host Manchester United in the Carling Cup on Wednesday.
