Sheff Wed 1-1 Blackburn

Wednesday's Jewell and Yorath had to settle for a point
Sheffield Wednesday were held to a draw after Ashley Westwood headed in for both sides.

Westwood put the home team ahead after just two minutes with a close-range header, his first goal for the club, when Blackburn failed to clear a corner.

But the 23-year-old was also a central figure in the equaliser, when he nodded on a 43rd minute header from Rovers substitute Martin Taylor into his own net.

Wednesday went at the visitors from the start and dominated the early exchanges.

This result was even more satisfying given our lack of players

But they were thankful for the solid display of 17-year-old keeper Chris Stringer, in for the suspended Kevin Pressman.

He stopped a low shot from David Dunn and palmed away Nathan Blake's deflected effort from a free-kick.

In an entertaining first-half, the Owls could have gone two ahead with 35 minutes gone, but Richard Cresswell blazed wide with the goal at his mercy.

After the break, it was the turn of Blackburn keeper Alan Kelly to play a key role.

This is probably a game we would have got nothing from 12 months ago
  Rovers manager Graeme Souness

He did well to save a bending 35-yard free-kick from Dutchman Gerald Sibon.

And Kelly produced a brilliant stop to deny a fine Westwood strike in the 64th minute.

As Blackburn pressed forward in the latter stages, they were nearly caught with a counter attack but Andy Booth headed wide at the far post.

During injury time, the visitors almost snatched victory, but Stringer saved Jansen's header from a searching Dunn cross.
