Swansea 1-0 Burnley

Swansea 1-0 Burnley

Sinclair & Rodgers on Burnley win

Scott Sinclair's early goal ended Burnley's unbeaten run in a game that saw both sides reduced to 10 men.

Alan Tate's superb run and cross from the right set up big-money summer signing Sinclair, who scooped in his second goal in two games.

Nathan Dyer nearly gave Stephen Dobbie a second as Swansea dominated the half.

Darren Pratley, already controversially booked for diving, saw red for a tackle on Tyrone Mears, who was sent off two minutes later for a lunge at Dyer.

The Clarets now have just one win from their last 24 away matches, and have lost 18 of their last 21 on the road.

The omens were not good for the visitors as Tate headed wide inside the opening five minutes after meeting a David Cotterill free-kick.

After Sinclair's goal and Dobbie's near miss, Swansea continued to dominate and were fortunate not to double their advantage when Pratley's 12-yard strike clipped the top of the crossbar.

Martin Paterson tested Dorus De Vries from 25 yards at the other end in a rare Burnley attack.

Paterson went close again from distance on the half-hour mark before Sinclair fired at Brian Jensen from just outside the penalty area.

Chris Iwelumo failed to hit the target with a close-range header from Graham Alexander's cross - and the former Wolves star and Dean Marney spurned further chances for the visitors just before the interval.

The lively Cotterill blazed over from 25 yards after the restart and Pratley tried his luck from distance to no avail.

Dyer and Sinclair combined again to allow the latter a sight at goal, only for the former Chelsea trainee to fire wide.

Two red cards in the space of as many minutes then changed the complexion of the game.

I thought that both sendings off were very, very harsh

Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers

Pratley was first to go, then Mears received his marching orders for a second yellow after clattering Dyer.

Steven Thompson replaced Paterson and almost hauled the sides level within four minutes of being introduced.

Danny Fox crossed and Thompson saw his six-yard header saved by De Vries.

Jack Cork, on loan at Turf Moor from Chelsea, rifled over from 30 yards as Burnley searched for an equaliser and Thompson shot wide from a similar range during a frantic finish.

Andrea Orlandi went close at the opposite end and Ross Wallace crashed over a 25-yard free-kick, but the Swans hung on to take all three points.

"I thought that both sendings off were very, very harsh," Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers told BBC Sport Wales.

"Everyone knows that Darren is a really honest player and he wouldn't have gone down [in the box for his first booking] unless he really had to.

"I haven't seen it again, but I thought it was a penalty, so for him to get booked then for that to cost him a red card… it's very, very disappointing.

"I also thought the second red card was harsh on Mears - it wasn't that sort of game."
