John Bostock celebrates
Sprus loanee John Bostock enjoys his opener on his Hull debut

England youth star John Bostock scored a wonder goal on his debut to inspire Hull City to a comfortable opening day Championship win over Swansea City.

The Tottenham loanee, who signed just 24 hours earlier, put the ex-Premier League side ahead with a 30-yard drive into the top right-hand corner.

Captain Ian Ashbee added the second, pouncing on a Dorus de Vries error.

Swansea's David Cotterill was denied by the crossbar while Darren Pratley saw an header cleared off the line.

The Swans have now lost on the opening day for the fifth successive season and it is the second year in a row Hull boss Nigel Pearson has drawn first blood against them in the first game.

Last year, he was in charge at Leicester City who beat the Swans 2-1 sending then-manager Paulo Sousa to defeat in his first match in charge of the Welsh side.

But Sousa has since moved to Leicester to replace Pearson who took over at the KC Stadium this summer and the Swans brought in Rodgers as his successor.

Rodgers' preparations were dealt a blow in the warm-up when Angel Rangel - heavily linked with a move to Premier League new boys Blackpool - suffered a recurrence of a leg injury so Albert Serran replaced him at right-back.

Both sides struggled to make an impact in front of goal in the early stages and the first real opening came from the visitors when Cotterill curled a 30-yard free-kick against the bar in the 21st minute after Pratley was brought down by debutant Nobby Solano.

They were to rue that missed opportunity as two minutes later, the brilliant Bostock announced his arrival creating space to fire home a 30-yard left-footed screamer into the top right-hand corner.

The England youth international has been tipped as a potential star of the future - that is why Spurs signed him as a 16-year-old from Crystal Palace - and just a day after signing a season-long loan deal at Hull, he gave a glimpse of why he is so highly-rated.

Hull, who left out record-signing Jimmy Bullard, could have doubled the lead soon after but the unmarked Anthony Gardner failed to head in a corner from eight yards.

Shot-shy Swansea had the chance to draw level on the stroke of half time when Cotterill dispossessed Kamil Zayatte and set up Dobbie who shot straight at Matt Duke from outside the box.

But the hosts, who we relegated from the Premier League and have suffered a summer of financial turmoil and restructuring their £35m debt, clinched a morale-boosting triumph within five minutes of the restart.

Tigers captain Ashbee, making his first competitive start since May 2009 after suffering an injury that led to a degenerative bone condition, led by example as he doubled the lead.

De Vries missed Garcia's corner and Ashbee was free at the far post to smash home from six yards out.

Pratley almost threw the visitors a lifeline but his header was cleared off the line by Gardner.

Hull rarely looked threatened otherwise and held on for their first win in eight competitive attempts to leave the Swans without an away win since March.
