Barnsley   0 - 1   QPR

Barnsley 0-1 QPR

Barnsley 0-1 QPR

Mikele Leigertwood's first-half winner ensured Barnsley's poor end-of-season form continued against QPR.

The midfielder netted in the 27th minute, linking up with Hogan Ephraim and drilling a powerful shot from 18 yards into the top-left corner.

Rangers keeper Radek Cerny denied Hugo Colace, Adam Hammill and Jon Macken with good saves as Barnsley pressed.

The second half was bereft of genuine goalscoring chances, with only Bobby Hassell testing Cerny from long range.

Barnsley boss Mark Robins:
"We created more chances than them.

"It's our final home game and we're disappointed to be finishing with a defeat. The players gave everything.

"Looking at the season as a whole I am delighted at where we are, but today I am disappointed that we haven't got anything from the game."

QPR boss Neil Warnock:
"It was a fitting goal to win a game.

"Mikele scores when you're not expecting them and produces something out of nothing. He hit it with his left foot - that's usually just for standing on.

"It's hard to motivate players when there's nothing at stake. In the first half we could have conceded but we played better in the second."
