QPR 1-0 Watford

QPR 1-0 Watford

Watford remain in relegation trouble at the bottom of the Championship after losing out to Akos Buzsaky's first-half penalty at Loftus Road against QPR.

Buzsaky began in lively fashion as he fizzed over from 20 yards and then forced Scott Loach to save a free-kick.

He slotted in from the spot after Dusko Tosic's run into the box was halted by a clumsy Adrian Mariappa challenge.

Watford had chances, but Danny Graham glanced a header wide and Radek Cerny saved Jon Harley's prod goalwards.

The defeat leaves the Hornets two points above Sheffield Wednesday, who occupy the last relegation place, with two games of the season remaining.

They host Reading on Saturday, with a trip to Coventry awaiting on the last day of the season on Sunday 2 May.

QPR manager Neil Warnock:
"It's tough when you're safe and you play against a team fighting for their lives. We didn't create too much, but I thought we deserved the win.

"We owed it to our supporters first and foremost, and of course the other teams in the relegation fight. No-one can point any fingers at us tonight.

"I still want to finish undefeated and if we could get another four points I'd be very pleased."

Watford manager Malky Mackay:

"From half-time onwards we threw everything we had at them. On another night we'd have scored a goal.

"I was disappointed with the first half and coming in 1-0 down, but the reaction we got in the second half gives me confidence we have the character.

"We have to start on the front foot on Saturday then we can be a team to be reckoned with."
