Coventry 1-1 Sheff Wed

Coventry 1-1 Sheff Wed

Richard Wood returned to haunt his former club with a 79th-minute leveller as Coventry snatched a point and denied Sheffield Wednesday a precious victory.

The former Owls captain took advantage of a mix-up between keeper Lee Grant and Darren Purse to head home and keep the hosts' faint play-off hopes alive.

Relegation-threatened Wednesday had looked to be heading for a win through Luke Varney's shot from an acute angle.

But Wood had the final say and a draw was about fair on the balance of play.

Coventry boss Chris Coleman:
"We made three changes and it got better - but we have to play from the first, not the 45th.

"We played here against Cardiff and, had we won, we would have been top six.

"That's taken it's toll. We have to avoid a repeat of the end to last season when we didn't win for seven or eight games."

Sheffield Wednesday manager Alan Irvine told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"We were the better team, everybody could see that.

"We had a lot of good chances today, their goalkeeper has made some good saves.

"Lee Grant has been outstanding for us and he was the first one to hold his hand up and said he made a mistake."
