QPR   1 - 1   Swansea

QPR v Swansea

QPR 1-1 Swansea

Substitute Antonio German rescued a point for Queens Park Rangers and dented Swansea City's play-off hopes.

Nathan Dyer thought he had done enough on 57 minutes to ensure a happy return to Loftus Road for Swans manager Paulo Sousa.

The winger pounced on a mistake by Kaspars Gorkss and lifted the ball over on-loan keeper Carl Ikeme.

But German levelled 19 minutes later from six yards after Swansea failed to clear a corner.

The Swans climb up a place to fourth in the Championship but are without a win in three as some of the chasing pack begin to close the gap.

Sousa, returning to west London for the first time since he was sacked in April last year, had criticised Rangers boss Neil Warnock's physical approach to games in the build-up.

But it was the hosts who almost made a stunning start when Akos Buzsaky's snap-shot flew narrowly wide after just two minutes.

They started brightly enough and Dyer almost put them ahead early on striking the inside of the post after Shefki Kuqi put him through.

It was Dyer who was causing most of the problems in the first half and he saw a flicked effort hit Rangers defender Matthew Hill and just go wide.

David Cotterill also came close and Kuqi saw a header go over the bar.

But Rangers found a foothold in the game and put the Swans under pressure with Mikele Liegertwood sending a speculative shot over from 30 yards.

Swansea broke the deadlock three minutes before the hour-mark through Dyer and Rangers then piled on the pressure and won a corner from Alan Tate, which he did not need to concede.

Teenager German made the most of the Swans' failure to clear that delivery to draw level.

Rowan Vine did have the ball in the net for Rangers late on but saw it ruled out for offside, leaving Warnock's side five points above the relegation zone.

QPR manager Neil Warnock: "I did tell the players not to tackle today so as not to upset Paulo.

"I told them it would be a horrible game, as Swansea don't give anything away, and that they would have to be patient.

"It was an enjoyable second half, Antonio took his goal well and it was a good fightback.

"It was interesting to see them under some pressure because they had been so composed - it was nice to ruffle a few feathers."

Sousa proud despite Swans draw

Swansea manager Paulo Sousa:

"We needed to be more clinical. We had four or five big chances but at 1-0 anything can happen.

"I don't think it was a fair result - we had a lot of chances to conclude the game.

"Antonio was playing for the Under-17s when I was here and I promoted him to train with the first team.

"I'm happy for him but not so happy for me. He's a good prospect for the future."
