Crystal Palace   0 - 1   Leicester

Palace's Claude Davis was sent off for this clash with Leicester's Michael Morrison

Crystal Palace 0-1 Leicester

Bruno Berner scored as Leicester won at Crystal Palace to strengthen their grip on a Championship play-off place.

Paul Gallacher shot wide for the Foxes before Chris Weale denied Palace's Calvin Andrews and Matt Oakley saw a strike saved by Julian Speroni.

Palace's Claude Davis, returning from suspension, saw red after an off-the-ball incident with Martyn Waghorn.

Berner then struck after Speroni parried a Waghorn strike as Leicester moved up to fourth place in the table.

However, Weale made two superb saves to secure the victory.

The keeper stopped a shot from Neil Danns and then brilliantly denied Clint Hill, whose 67th-minute header appeared certain to find the net.

His opposite number Speroni also stopped a Gallacher volley but Leicester closed out the match to claim back-to-back league victories and the Foxes have now just lost once in 11 league games.

Crystal Palace manager Paul Hart:
"I don't think we can defend that [Claude Davis's red card] at all. I've not asked him what he was thinking.

"I will study what the code of conduct is, but my last word to the players is always stay on the pitch.

"It is the last thing we needed and very disappointing. It was tough enough with 11 players on the pitch.

"It's not for me to comment on what the players think but it was unnecessary and made the game difficult for us."

Leicester assistant manager Chris Powell:
"It was a good win for us in our quest to finish in the top six.

"You have to earn everything you get and to get three points in a feisty game is good.

"The sending off was significant and got the crowd on the backs of the officials. We were looking at it and wondering if one of our players would get sent off as well.

"But the manager (Nigel Pearson) kept us calm and said if we keep the pressure on we would get the goal and it came through Bruno."
