Crystal Palace   2 - 0   Peterborough

Crystal Palace 2-0 Peterborough

Crystal Palace 2-0 Peterborough

Crystal Palace secured a morale-boosting win to move four points clear of the Championship relegation zone.

Docked 10 points after going into administration, they again missed prized asset Victor Moses, who was barred from playing by administrators.

After Nathanial Clyne cleared Posh midfielder Chris Whelpdale's header off the line, Butterfield flicked on for Neil Danns to hook acrobatically home.

Danns added a fine second when he chested down, turned and fired home.

It was a stirring display from the Eagles, and manager Neil Warnock led his players, many of whom may be sold in the financial re-structuring, into the centre circle to acknowledge the supporters.

After Palace keeper Julian Speroni saved at full-stretch from Lee Frecklington's snap shot, the home side quickly began to exert pressure.

Butterfield almost opened the scoring when he robbed Tom Williams in the area but shot into the side-netting.

Another defensive lapse allowed Butterfield to cut the ball back to Darren Ambrose but he missed his kick in front of goal.

Butterfield blazed over from five yards but Palace soon had a two-goal cushion as Danns controlled Ambrose's chip and turned in one movement before clinically slotting past Joe Lewis.

Speroni tipped away a Boyd effort as Palace's quest to climb back up the table began with an encouraging win.

Warnock: Moses 'on way to Premier League'

Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock told BBC London 94.9:

"We found that the most difficult games to overcome are teams at the bottom end.

"It was important to get the win today because we haven't given up anything this season and we are going to do as best we can in the last 19 or 20 games.

"We feel we can give everybody a run for their money in the next few months."

Peterborough boss Mark Cooper:

"I can't question my players' effort and commitment, they worked their socks off all game.

"But, when we have our spells in the game, we don't score and when we come under a little bit of pressure, we concede. That's not a recipe for success."
