Nottm Forest   5 - 0   QPR

Nottingham Forest 5-0 QPR

Nottingham Forest 5-0 QPR

Robert Earnshaw scored two goals and made a third as Nottingham Forest stormed past QPR to go level on points with Championship leaders Newcastle.

Earnshaw fired in a free-kick from the edge of the D before Paul Anderson fed him for a second three minutes later.

Kaspars Gorkss then upended Earnshaw to concede a penalty which was swept home by Hoops old boy Dexter Blackstock

Chris Cohen drove in from distance just after the break before James Perch added an angled fifth from close range.

Forest's sixth consecutive home win stretched their unbeaten league run to 19 games and counting, leaving them just a single goal-difference point behind Newcastle, who play Crystal Palace at St James' Park tomorrow night.

QPR have never won at the City Ground, and it quickly became clear that there would be no alteration to that sorry statistic under caretaker manager Mick Harford.

The Hoops spent virtually the entire first period pinned into their own half, finally falling behind when Earnshaw curled a shot around the wall and just inside Ikeme's left-hand post after 19 minutes.

Moments later Rangers surrendered possession in midfield and Forest swiftly broke to double their advantage, Anderson slipped a pass to Earnshaw, who slotted home with a first-time shot.

Things got even worse for QPR when Radoslaw Majewski fed Earnshaw in the area, prompting a clever turn from the forward which drew a foul from Gorkss.

Blackstock converted his spot-kick against the club he swapped for Forest in the summer, and when Rangers did finally muster their first meaningful attack, early in the second half, Lee Camp - another Loftus Road recruit - added insult to injury by saving well from Nigel Quashie.

Cohen then made it a procession with a 25-yard strike that flew into the roof of Ikeme's net, and when Earnshaw squandered a chance to claim his second hat-trick of the season, Perch was on hand to tap home from close range.

Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies:
"Promotion, not a chance. At the moment we have achieved nothing - people can talk all they like.

"There are too many sporting moments in history where teams or individuals blew it at the final hurdle. It happens.

"But until it's over there are a lot of teams outside the top six that believe they can catch us - and they can."

QPR caretaker-boss Mick Harford:
"That kind of performance is not acceptable and they know that.

"We gave away three easy goals and never had a shot on target in the first half - and for a QPR side that is a sin because we have some very good players.

"We knew it would be tough. They have some very good players and we couldn't deal with what they threw at us."
