Reading   1 - 1   Swansea

Reading v Swansea

Reading 1-1 Swansea

Gylfi Sigurdsson's free-kick in first-half stoppage time secured a point for managerless Reading.

Darren Pratley had given Swansea the lead nine minutes before the break with his third goal in two games, finishing off a fine move by the visitors.

Both sides had chances to claim all three points with Reading's Adam Federici saving from Nathan Dyer and Gorka Pintado.

Sigurdsson forced Dorus de Vries into a good save, as did Jimmy Kebe.

Reading still only have one win at the Madejski Stadium this season but the point moves them up to 19th, four points above the Championship's relegation zone.

This time last year, they were second in the table and pushing for an immediate return to the Premier League.

Swansea kept up the pressure at that end as they chase down the automatic promotion places but drop a place to sixth.

They could have gone ahead after 13 minutes when Brynjar Gunnarsson's clearance was deflected into the path of Dyer but Federici made a smart stop with his legs.

Reading's Australian goalkeeper later denied Orlandi after the Spaniard tested him from 25 yards, but he could do little nine minutes before half-time when Orlandi fed Pratley who finished superbly.

Swansea's lead was cancelled out three minutes into first-half stoppage time when Dyer fouled Sigurdsson outside the box and the Icelandic midfielder picked himself up to curl the free kick into the bottom-left corner.

Reading started the second half strongly and Grzegorz Rasiak fired wide before Sigurdsson sent a shot over.

But Swansea always looked dangerous and Federici dived low to deny Pintado's header.

Lee Trundle had the ball in the back of the net for Swansea late on but the goal was ruled out for offside as Reading held on.

Reading caretaker manager Brian McDermott: "I do want to be given the job here but that's a board decision. I am quite relaxed about it, I just do my work from day to day.

"Swansea are a good side and give you all sorts of problems, but you can't congratulate yourself when you only get one point at home.

"I had a text from [former manager] Steve Coppell which said 'wng'. It took me a while to work it out, but then I realised it meant 'win next game'."

Swansea manager Paulo Sousa:
"In this game I am not happy with a point away from home, bad decisions cost us the game. I consider it to be two points dropped."

Swansea boss rues dropped points

"Once more we saw bad decisions against us but it is not something I want to talk about today.

"Officials are an important part of the game and they need to help. They need to be at the same level as the teams.

"It was a difficult game against a squad trying to impress a new manager. We played with great effort and personality."
