Sheffield Wednesday v Reading

Sheffield Wednesday 0-2 Reading

Jobi McAnuff created both goals as Reading pulled away from Championship relegation zone with victory over fellow strugglers Sheffield Wednesday.

After a woeful opening period, McAnuff crossed for Grzegorz Rasiak to open the scoring with a well-placed header.

Wednesday searched of an equaliser and Luke Varney volleyed against a post.

But the visitors moved further ahead when McAnuff laid on a simple finish for Kalifa Cisse and they even held on for a first clean sheet in 13 games.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Brian Laws:

"As a manager, you know if you are not getting the right results then the pressure mounts.

"Fragile is the word I would use. The players are out there to perform. You know that their confidence is low.

"I said to the players, you've got to look to the next game, and maybe, being away from home, it might be just what we need."

Reading manager Brendan Rodgers:

"Defensively we were outstanding today, in terms of our shape and how solid we were.

"We've always got the possibility to score goals. But mainly I'm very, very pleased with the clean sheet.

"We now have two home games, starting with Crystal Palace, and we can go in with great positivity."
