Barnsley's Robins criticises abandoning Plymouth game
Plymouth 1-4 Barnsley (abandoned)
Barnsley boss Mark Robins did not believe the conditions were dangerous
Barnsley manager Mark Robins was scathing of the decision to call off his team's match against Plymouth after 58 minutes because of heavy rain.
"I don't think he (the referee) would have made the same decision if the score was the other way around," said Robins, whose side was leading 4-1.
Referee Gavin Ward deemed the playing surface unsafe as players struggled to stay on their feet on the soaked pitch.
Plymouth boss Paul Sturrock said ending the game was the "right decision".
"I think he [Ward] did it wrong. He should have had a word with the two managers at half-time, or the two captains, and marked our cards," said Sturrock.
"The 15 minutes after the decision he made would have been shambolic. It was an incredible deluge and it was getting bad enough as it was.
We should see if the referee will reimburse our supporters because coming here will have cost them an absolute fortune
Barnsley manager Mark Robins
"There were people flying in and sliding 20 yards. His [Barnsley boss Mark Robins] team's played very well and in the circumstances we have got out of jail."
Barnsley hit four goals through Daniel Bogdanovic, Emil Hallfredsson, Adam Hammill and Ryan Shotton after Alan Judge put the home side in front on nine minutes.
Robins believed the Tykes could have scored more against a Plymouth side who remain in the relegation zone.
"It could have been eight or nine," said Robins.
"We will have to come here again now. Our supporters have to come here again and we are all disappointed because we played ever so well.
"The players are devastated by that and we have to remember that feeling when we come back here.
"The decision was made unilaterally by the referee and that is the first time I have seen that.
"We should see if the referee will reimburse our supporters because coming here will have cost them an absolute fortune. I don't think it was that dangerous."
