Sheff Wed   2 - 0   Coventry

Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 Coventry

Sheffield Wed 2-0 Coventry

Sheffield Wednesday ended a poor run of home form to win and move above Coventry in the table.

Darren Purse's header on four minutes opened the scoring and Leon Clarke made it 2-0 with an 18th minute penalty after a foul on James O'Connor.

A miserable day for Coventry got worse when Aron Gunnarsson was stretchered off with a serious-looking leg injury.

His replacement Freddie Eastwood had a shot saved and Jack Cork also went close but the Owls did enough to win.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Brian Laws:

"I thought we were exceptionally good.

"We've had a horrible two weeks since losing at Derby but the players have responded very well.

"We went 2-0 up and could have had more goals in the first-half. The second-half was a workmanlike performance to ensure we didn't lose the game."

Coventry boss Chris Coleman:

"I think the officials thought that because we'd played so badly for the first thirty minutes, they'd emulate our performance.

"Sheffield Wednesday were better than us and deserved the three points, but there were two decisions which were major for us.

"The two goals we gave away were poor and in every department we weren't good enough."
