Ipswich   1 - 1   Swansea

Ipswich Town v Swansea City

Ipswich 1-1 Swansea

Under-fire Ipswich boss Roy Keane is still searching for his first win of the season after being held by Swansea.

Craig Beattie put the Swans ahead with his first goal for the club after seven minutes, smashing the ball past debutant keeper Asmir Begovic.

But that lead was cancelled out eight minutes later when Pablo Counago side-footed home from close range.

Ipswich looked threatening from set pieces but could not find a way through as Swansea held firm.

It means Keane's side have failed to win any of their opening 12 Championship games and remain rooted to the bottom of the table.

Swansea started lively and took a deserved lead when Angel Rangel's ball over the top found Beattie, and the £500,000 record signing beat three defenders before finding the net.

Credit to the Tractor Boys who got themselves back into the game when Jaime Peters cut back to Counago, and the Welsh side's failed summer target, punished them from six yards.

While the Swans played the better football, it was Ipswich who posed more of a threat, with Counago and Tommy Smith both coming close with headers from corners.

Alan Quinn later pounced on Ashley Williams' mistake and crossed low for Jon Walters who could only put it wide at the near post.

Keeper Dorus de Vries also denied Counago and teenager Connor Wickham as the Swans deservedly extended their unbeaten run to six.

Ipswich manager Roy Keane:
"We're making progress and this gives us something to build on. It's certainly not doom and gloom.

"The players are training well and I can't fault them, but we just can't seem to put the ball in the back of the net.

"We had good chances in the second half and should have won the game. It wasn't ideal to concede another early goal."

Interview: Swansea manager Paulo Sousa

Swansea manager Paulo Sousa:

"Ipswich belong at the top, not the bottom, and they have got some very good players here.

"For that reason, I'm happy with one point although I'm always happier when we win.

"In the first half we controlled the game better and could have scored more goals.

"We had more possession but in the second half we weren't as direct as I would have liked."
