Blackpool   2 - 0   Plymouth

Blackpool v Plymuth Argyle

Blackpool 2-0 Plymouth

Ian Holloway's Blackpool recorded their fourth consecutive home win to leave his old side Plymouth Argyle struggling in 23rd place in the table.

Marcel Seip, on loan from Argyle, opened the scoring with a glancing header from a Charlie Adam free-kick as Blackpool dominated the first half.

The visitors improved after the break before David Vaughan made it 2-0 with a fine shot from the corner of the box.

Plymouth never gave up hope but rarely threatened to get on the score sheet.

The two sides' contrasting fortunes were shown by their approach to the game in the early stages.

The home side exuded confidence from the start, with Hameur Bouazza causing all kinds of problems on the right, while the visitors rarely got out of their own half.

With less than two minutes on the clock, Bouazza's goalbound shot was deflected onto the post by the head of Shane Lowry, and the Algerian also set up good headed chances for Adam and Ben Burgess.

Seip gave the home side an overdue lead on 30 minutes, and two minutes later Billy Clark nearly made it 2-0, with Romain Larrieu producing a fine full-stretch save to keep out his lobbed volley.

The introduction of Cillian Sheridan after the break gave Plymouth more threat up front, but they paid the price when Rory Fallon failed to get on the end of a Jamie Mackie cross.

Blackpool responded by going up the other end and neat footwork by Burgess set up Vaughan to shoot into the top corner of the net from the edge of the box.

Plymouth refused to give up, though, with former Blackpool loanee Alan Gow coming on to add to their attacking options, but they rarely threatened a comeback.

Blackpool manager Ian Holloway:
"I wish we could play here every week. I was very pleased with the performance and pleased for Marcel.

"We looked a good team and I could bring an international off the bench in Neil Eardley.

"No one has been able to say that about a Blackpool side for a long time".

Argyle manager Paul Sturrock:

Our players were off the pace - Sturrock

"I am not using it as a total excuse but we were 10-and-a-half hours on a bus on Friday.

"It really showed. The journey took its toll and we let down our following support.

"In the first half we were second to everything but improved slightly in the second."
