Newcastle continued their impressive start to the Championship season with victory at Crystal Palace.

Midfielder Kevin Nolan gave the Magpies the lead with his first goal for the club when he slipped the ball through the legs of keeper Darryl Flahavan.

Ryan Taylor doubled the advantage with a superb 25-yard curling shot.

Palace went close through Alassane N'Diaye, whose header went narrowly wide, while Freddie Sears forced a fine save from keeper Steve Harper.

Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock:

"We never really gave ourselves a chance.

The goals were a disgrace, but you get punished by good players."

Newcastle caretaker boss Chris Hughton:
"I'm very happy to do this job for as long as I am asked to.

"It's not about me putting down a marker for the job, it's about winning games and the players have responded.

"We are not far off. We have quality here. I'm hoping we don't lose any more players over the next week."
