Swansea   0 - 3   Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough were too good for Swansea as the ex-Premier League side claimed a first win in eight league matches.

Adam Johnson slipped past Angel Rangel before whipping an unlikely cross-cum-shot past Dorus De Vries for the first.

Ashley Williams and Stephen Dobbie had chances to equalise, but when Williams gave away the ball on the edge of the box Marvin Emnes blasted a fine second.

The Swans' weak defending continued from a Johnson corner, replacement Tuncay Sanli heading in from six yards.

The defeat leaves the Liberty Stadium side still seeking a first league point under new manager Paulo Sousa, following last week's 2-1 defeat at Leicester.

It is the first time that Swansea have lost their opening two league fixtures since 1985.

They did claim a Carling Cup win over Brighton on Tuesday, but are left as the only side in the Championship without a point.

Swansea manager Paulo Sousa:
"When you make small mistakes against teams and players of this quality who have played in the Premier League, it is game over.

Sousa positive after Boro loss

"We started well enough but we missed our chances and they hit us on the counter attack.

"The game could have been different but we didn't get the crucial moments right when we created our chances.

"They controlled the rest of the first half and we only had one or two opportunities to score.

"You go down mentally and it's an uphill task from there. It was just not our day."

Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate:
"It feels sweet to win away but the manner of the win was pleasing.

"We are a young and vibrant team in a league which is wide open. It's only one win but we have to be more ruthless and take our chances.

"It appeared easy but we weren't comfortable until the third goal.

"We look a physically strong team and I felt our wingers, Adam Johnson and Mark Yeates, would be key.

"Johnson was really good and we wanted to get the ball to him as much as possible.

"He was a constant threat to Swansea. He, like many of our players, has played at this level before and he wants to get back to the top.

"We pressurised Swansea well and didn't let them get into their stride."
