Doncaster   1 - 1   Preston

Adam Lockwood's late equaliser rescued a point for Doncaster.

Forward Chris Brown put Preston ahead by latching on to Ross Wallace's pass and firing beyond keeper Neil Sullivan.

But Rovers came roaring back after the interval and James Hayter hit the Preston post before visiting keeper Andy Lonergan denied Brian Stock.

Doncaster finally got the goal they deserved 10 minutes from time, when Stock sent in a free-kick and Lockwood netted from close range.

The home side were worthy of a draw, but Preston were left to rue chances they missed when they were on top in the first half.

North End's Barry Nicholson headed wide from 12 yards early on and after Brown's opener, Paul Parry failed to take a golden opportunity to double the lead.

Callum Davidson set Parry up with a fine cross, but the Wales international headed wide.

And after Lockwood's leveller, both teams came close to scoring a winner.

Sullivan produced fine saves to deny Chris Sedgwick and Sean St Ledger, while Lonergan also did well to keep out substitute Dean Shiels' 20-yard effort.

In a dramatic finale, Hayter volleyed wide and Preston striker Jon Parkin missed the target following Nicholson's corner.

Doncaster manager Sean O'Driscoll:

"We kept our discipline and shape after we went a goal down.

"I thought we dominated the second half and for a while I did think it was going to be one of those days again when we wouldn't convert the chances that we created.

"But we got one in the end and I thought we looked the more likely team to go on and win it.

"We created chances and did not take them. James Hayter will rue the fact he hit the post. Nine times out of 10 he scores and we give ourselves a chance. Every point counts in this division."

Preston manager Alan Irvine:
"That was two points lost. I thought we passed them to death in the first half.

"We had the lion's share of the ball and we were very comfortable. We put some great crosses in.

"In the second half we passed poorly and made bad decisions. It's just disappointing that we switched off defending a free kick."
