Welsh duo learn Championship fate

The Championship

Cardiff City's first Championship game in their new Cardiff City stadium will be against Scunthorpe on 8 August.

Swansea City are away on that opening day of the league season at Leicester.

The Welsh rivals' first derby of the 2009/10 season has been pencilled in for 7 November at Swansea's Liberty Stadium, with the return on 3 April.

Cardiff are at home to Plymouth on Boxing Day and then go to Peterborough on 28 December, while Swansea are away at Reading then home to Crystal Palace.

Both Welsh league derbies finished 2-2 last season, although Swansea won the Carling Cup encounter at the Liberty Stadium in September.

The Bluebirds will be the first of the Welsh pair to face newly relegated Newcastle, with the fallen north east giants coming to the Welsh capital on 12 September.

Swansea get their first crack at the Magpies on 28 November with a trip to St James' Park.

Cardiff make that same, long trip north on 6 February, while Swansea host Newcastle the following week.

The last day of the regular league season will be on Sunday, 2 May, where Cardiff travel to Derby and Swansea host Doncaster.
