Ipswich won the East Anglian derby, leaving rivals Norwich in danger of relegation to League One.

David Mooney headed in Sammy Clingan's free-kick before the excellent Giovani dos Santos cleverly set up Alan Quinn to fire home the home side's equaliser.

Giovani calmly put Ipswich ahead with a penalty after goalkeeper David Marshall impeded Kevin Lisbie, who later flicked on for Jon Stead to make it 3-1.

Clingan pulled one back with a late penalty after Quinn's foul on Alan Lee.

Giovani, on loan from Tottenham, produced a fine performance and was a constant threat to Norwich, who are a point adrift from safety with just two games left to play.

The Canaries were angered by referee Neil Swarbrick's decision to award Ipswich a penalty after Lisbie had hurdled a challenge from Marshall.

It proved to be the turning point in the game and, as Norwich chased an equaliser, Stead was able to snatch Ipswich's third and decisive goal.

Ipswich manager Jim Magilton:

"The referee on another day may have not given the penalty but it was a close one. I haven't seen it back so we just have to go with the referee's decision.

"It was contentious but in the second half we turned it up a notch and played some great stuff.

"It was an important win for the fans and we deserved it in my opinion. Norwich threw the kitchen sink at us but we defended well and saw it out."

Norwich manager Bryan Gunn told BBC Radio Norfolk:

"I was very angry, especially when the Ipswich Town manager comes up to me and said he didn't think it was a penalty.

"Then when you come off for Kevin Lisbie to say that he wasn't going to get to the ball, and the contact between him and David Marshall was minimal, I thought.

"Then the referee decides to give the penalty kick from around the halfway line, It's disappointing when you put all those things together."
