Birmingham 1-1 Norwich

Sammy Clingan's 25-yard free-kick boosted Norwich's survival chances as Birmingham dropped two home points.

Norwich had the ball in the net after just four minutes, only for debutant Alan Lee's effort to be ruled offside.

Birmingham went ahead just before the break when Hameur Bouazza's cross was headed home by Cameron Jerome.

But on 53 minutes Clingan whipped in a free-kick past Maik Taylor and Norwich held on thanks to a superb goalkeeping performance from David Marshall.

Birmingham manager Alex McLeish:

"We started too casually and the players forgot what I had told them for recent home games.

"We had a good opportunity to shut the game out but then shot ourselves in the foot giving away a free-kick on the edge of the penalty area.

"We have given away far too many free-kicks away on the edge of the area in recent games and somewhere along the line you are going to get punished, as we were on this occasion.

Norwich manager Bryan Gunn:

"Before the game the referee said he would make the right major decisions but he failed to award a free-kick for an infringement against my keeper, David Marshall.

"Marshall had blood on his nose so there had been contact - 99.9% of the time the referee would have awarded a free-kick and not allowed a goal.

"I believe that Cameron Jerome jumped into him, I'm not saying he elbowed him or anything like that, but he's obviously jumped into him and contact was made.

"I thought the referee was poor and it was a bad decision.

"To come to St Andrews and come away with a point after a performance like that is good, but it could have been very good."
