Ledley sickened by Cardiff defeat

Joe Ledley
Ledley says the Bluebirds' games in hand put them in a good position

Captain Joe Ledley admitted he was "sickened" by Cardiff City's failure to beat Southampton as four of their Championship rivals lost.

The Bluebirds slipped to sixth in the table before Sheffield's 2-1 Sunday win over Birmingham knocked them out of the play-off zone into seventh.

"We missed a chance again with all the top four losing," said Ledley.

"It's sickening. We had a chance to ... get a win, but we tried our best and it didn't happen."

However, Ledley says the Bluebirds are in a good position to push for a play-off place with games in hand on higher-placed rivals Bristol City, Sheffield, Preston, Reading, Birmingham and leaders Wolverhampton.

The Bluebirds face Barnsley at Ninian Park on Tuesday and Ledley said: "We'd rather the points than the games, but it's down to us players to pick ourselves up for Tuesday."

Cardiff are awaiting fitness news on midfielders Quincy Owusu-Abeyie and Chris Burke, who both took knocks against Southampton.
