Norwich 4-0 Barnsley

Wes Hoolahan scored his first goal for Norwich as caretaker manager Bryan Gunn's side crushed Barnsley in Saturday's Championship match.

After Glenn Roeder's sacking this week Norwich opened the scoring with Darel Russell setting up Hoolahan to tap in.

A bad Darren Moore error led to Jamie Cureton nipping in and poking home.

Sammy Clingan scored a late penalty after Matty Pattison was fouled, and the impressive Russell converted David Bell's cross in stoppage time.

Norwich caretaker manager Bryan Gunn:

"I had a lot of goodwill messages from people in football, including one from Sir Alex Ferguson.

"After he had wished me well I said: 'What do I say to the players before the game?' and he said I should stress the importance of togetherness and playing as a team.

"So I followed his advice, told the players I had received a message from the greatest football manager in the world and let them know what he had said and it certainly worked.

"I've got to speak to the chief executive and directors and I'm leaving that situation open ended. What I can say is that being in charge was an amazing experience and one I really enjoyed."

Barnsley boss Simon Davey:

"I decided not to speak to the players straight after the game because I might have said something I regretted.

"They are not a happy bunch at the moment and after that performance I can't blame them.

"We did all right in the first half but in the second we were simply a shambles. That's not what we are about at Barnsley and it's something I'll need to address."
