Derby 0-1 Ipswich

Paul Jewell's Derby suffered a home defeat at the hands of Ipswich in his 50th league game as Rams manager.

Derby made a bright start but striker Nathan Ellington limped off injured and Jonathan Walters soon after put Ipswich ahead, stooping to glance in a header.

Derby were restricted to long-range shots, with Miles Addison, Jordan Stewart and Kris Commons all missing.

Steve Davies hit the post, but Derby's hopes ended when Stewart clattered into David Norris and was sent off.

Derby assistant manager Chris Hutchings:
"I didn't think that Ipswich were a lot better than us.

"But it's unfortunate that we are going through a period when we are not creating many clear-cut chances. We conceded a poor goal.

"The early injury to Nathan Ellington upset us and the red card didn't help so it's been a bad day all round. But we won't appeal against the red card."

Ipswich manager Jim Magilton:
"We've shown tremendous sprit and tremendous character.

"The players have stuck together and they've had to because Derby showed great heart and kept going for their manager right to the end.

"Even though we had the numerical advantage (after Jordan Stewart's sending off) Derby kept going."
