Watford 2-1 Norwich

Tommy Smith's strike earned Watford boss Brendan Rodgers his first win as manager as they saw off Norwich.

Tamas Priskin put the hosts in front with their first shot on goal, latching on to Liam Bridcutt's header and racing clear to fire past David Marshall.

Norwich fought back as Jon Otsemobor headed wide and Lee Croft forced a fine save from Scott Loach, before Croft headed David Bell's left-wing cross in.

But two minutes later Smith created a yard of space and drilled in a winner.

Watford manager Brendan Rodgers:
"To get the win is vital for the situation we're in.

"It's probably the worst we've played since I've come in but we've had difficult games and I'm delighted.

"Tommy Smith is inspirational, which is why I've made him captain."

Norwich boss Glenn Roeder:
"It's daylight robbery. We dominated from start to finish and gave them two early Christmas presents.

"It was a terrific performance from our lads. To criticise them would be wrong.

"Anyone who can put up a case that Watford deserved to win is in fairyland. But it's our fault. We take the blame."
