Barnsley's Hume leaves hospital

Iain Hume
Hume had surgery on a fractured skull and for internal bleeding

Barnsley striker Iain Hume has been discharged from hospital after being readmitted on Monday following an operation on a fractured skull.

The 25-year-old had complained of feeling unwell at his Oldham home and was taken into hospital for a second time as a precautionary measure.

He was injured after a challenge from Sheffield United's Chris Morgan and had emergency surgery on his skull.

The FA confirmed it will take no further action against the defender.

People have made a little bit more of it than they should have

Sheffield United assistant manager Sam Ellis

Sheffield United assistant manager Sam Ellis says the Hume incident is now "closed" as far as he is concerned.

Ellis told BBC Radio Sheffield: "We didn't think there was anything more. We think people have made a little bit more of it than they should have."

And Ellis does not expect any further action: "It was closed after the game."

Morgan, 31, was booked for the challenge during the South Yorkshire derby at Oakwell but the FA said it cannot upgrade yellow cards to red.

Barnsley say that decision reflects badly on football and they will look at taking legal action "outside of the normal football processes".
