Cardiff 2-1 Crystal Palace

Michael Chopra celebrates
Michael Chopra celebrates his first goal in his second spell at Ninian Park

Crowd favourites Michael Chopra and Joe Ledley maintained Cardiff City's Championship play-off hopes with a 2-1 home victory over Crystal Palace.

Chopra re-opened his second Cardiff goal account as the on-loan Sunderland striker scored a penalty after he was fouled by Jose Fonte on the half-hour.

Palace's Sean Scannell made the most of a mix-up in the hosts defence to level.

Ledley restored City's lead before Chopra missed a late penalty and Palace's Matthew Lawrence was sent off.

Cardiff manager Dave Jones said:
"I was so angry at half-time because we totally dominated the game and to be caught with one straight ball down the middle was disappointing but we fell asleep.

"For all the good play we done, we were undone. I was so angry and frustrated I was glad to get them in at half-time, there was a lot of shouting and moaning at each other but we had to get back to doing things right.

"I'd feel hard done by if the first penalty was awarded against my team, he has caught him but has he knocked him out of his stride? But it evens itself out over the season.

"Overall we deserved the victory by the way we played and dominated for long spells."

Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock said:

"I thought we played well and I was very pleased with the performance.

"The home crowd were superb for Cardiff but I don't think the first penalty was deserved but Chopra used everything available to him and good luck to him.

"The disappointing thing for me was that I thought the referee did his best. Referee's should be educated in the game by former players as it is not all about the laws.

"We were slow in picking up Ledley when he came on to the field and that proved costly."
